Budgie for your computer
- Calls ring, always. Close the window and Budgie waits in the tray; it starts with your computer, so a call rings even when you haven’t opened it.
- Notifications for messages, group chats and replies, with the unread count on Budgie’s icon.
- Share your screen or one window, and on Windows its sound too.
- Always the newest Budgie. Its screens come from budgiesocial.com, so there’s nothing to update. No ads.
Windows
For Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). It installs for you alone, with no administrator needed.
Download for WindowsBudgie’s installer isn’t signed with a certificate yet, so Windows may say Windows protected your PC. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
Linux
Pick the one for your Linux. Most computers are x64; ARM is for a Raspberry Pi and ARM laptops.
.debLinux Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Pop!_OS, Zorin, elementary: open it to install, or
sudo apt install ./budgie-social-amd64.deb
.rpmFedora, openSUSE, Nobara: sudo dnf install ./budgie-social-x86_64.rpm (openSUSE: sudo zypper install)
ArchArch, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, CachyOS: sudo pacman -U budgie-social-x64.pacman
AppImageAny Linux: make it executable (chmod +x Budgie-x86_64.AppImage), then open it
.tar.gzAny Linux, by hand: unpack it anywhere and run budgie-social
ARM: .deb · .rpm · Arch · AppImage · .tar.gz
On Ubuntu 24.04 and newer, choose the .deb: AppImages need an extra step there. Budgie waits in the tray on Cinnamon, KDE, Xfce and most others; on GNOME, its icon shows with the AppIndicator extension (without it, open Budgie from your apps to bring its window back).
Good to know
- Budgie keeps running in the tray when you close its window, so calls and messages still reach you. To quit it, right-click its tray icon and choose Quit Budgie, or press Ctrl+Q. Starting with your computer can be turned off there too.
- On Windows you can share your computer’s sound along with your screen. It shares everything your computer plays, the call included, so it’s best for videos and games.
- On a Mac? Budgie’s Mac app is on its way to the Mac App Store. Until then, Budgie works in Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
- The files come from Budgie’s releases on GitHub. What the app keeps and sends is in the Privacy Policy (section 4).
